about acacia press
We’re a fine press publisher based in Perth, Australia.
We make thoughtfully designed books that are as joyful to hold as they are to read.
Our Story
As an avid reader with a background in design, fine press publishing was inevitable.
Beginning in Sydney, and now based in Perth, Acacia Press has spanned the breadth of Australia. Sydney and Perth are diverse in subtle ways, including flora and fauna. However, one element that connects both cities (and Australia as a whole) are acacia trees, the national floral emblem. Their explosion of vivid yellow at the end of winter joyfully signals the start of spring. Many indigenous people across countries, including the Noongar whose traditional lands Acacia Press operates on, and the Dharawal on whose lands Acacia Press originated, traditionally marked seasonal changes with the blooming of wattle; they are symbols of renewal and resiliance, a joyful reminder of the coming warmer days.
Acacias fibres are also particularly well-suited for making paper and their fast-growing nature make them a sustainable option.
Our Values
We strive for small and aim for detail. We focus primarily on literary fiction, and especially enjoy leaning into stories written by or that feature women and people of colour, who have often been neglected. We don’t limit ourselves by genre, though whatever we publish has social and cultural significance.
Our Partners
We may be new, but we have teamed up with some of the most respected craftspeople in fine-press publishing, inclusing Phil Abel at Hand & Eye and Ludlow Bookbinders. We are excited to work with illustrators such as François Vaillancourt and Freya Scott.
